Sydney-based landscaper Shianne Foxx, who is recognized online as the ‘bikini tradie,’ is highlighting the issue of workplace double standards. She contends that she should have the same right as her male colleagues to work topless on hot days. After her supervisor remarked that her doing so would be a “distraction,” she took to social media to voice her discontent.
“It’s a scorching 40-degree day today, and I’m the one required to keep my shirt on, while all the guys on the site are free to go without theirs,” Foxx stated in a TikTok video. “This is a double standard, it’s unfair, and I’m genuinely fed up with it.”
Her video ignited a debate, with some individuals backing her viewpoint, while others expressed concerns regarding potential distractions in the workplace. In an interview with News.com.au, Foxx defended her stance: “I don’t believe it should be considered ‘distracting’ because, ultimately, it’s just a natural aspect of life.”
While some advocate for challenging existing rules, others are apprehensive about possible disruptions in the workplace. Regardless of the controversy, Foxx’s position has sparked a wider conversation about gender equality in industries traditionally dominated by men.
