13-year-old Malakai Bayoh was gifted with the voice of an angel, and this Christmas you don’t want to miss the heavenly sounds of his duet with Aled Jones on “O Holy Night.” The teen Britain’s Got Talent finalist and the presenter teamed up for a duet in St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden, London. The pair scored a viral hit with the performance, with fans amazed by Malakai’s clear and ringing voice, as well as how beautifully it paired with Jones’ baritone.
Malakai opens the performance with a pristine verse that perfectly displays his lithe voice. The young talent can hit some truly impressive notes, and when the multiple part harmony appears later in the song, it really does sound like the voice of angels. Readers may note that Jones was the perfect choice to accompany Malakai, as he provides a stately verse then switches to providing a tasteful lower register counterpoint to the teenager’s part.
This duet was uploaded on YouTube on December 23, 2022. The song proved to be quite popular, with 5.2 million viewers tuning in to hear the Christmas carol. Viewers were mighty impressed with the duet and added comments such as “Malakai not only has a crystal clear voice, he has an elegant, dignified presence of someone much older. Fascinating talent!” and “The way Malakai reaches the top F with such ease and strength of voice is just wonderful. One of the best trebles I’ve ever heard.”
Readers may remember Malakai from his smash hit performances on Britain’s Got Talent in 2023. The teen made it all the way to the finals in the 16th season of the show, and it’s no secret as to why! Malakai amazed viewers with the sound of his remarkable voice in his 12.5 million view audition, for which he scored a golden buzzer with the hymn “Pie Jesu.”
Malakai Bayoh explained to Simon Cowell on Britain’s Got Talent that he began singing at age seven after joining a choir. He later began his career in music by taking a role in a production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Malakai’s 2022 recording of “O Holy Night” with Jones formed his introduction to many music fans around the world. The following year, the teen released his debut album Golden via Universal Music, scoring a UK Classical number one hit.
